I wholeheartedly agree with you, Tac. We are just beginning to see innovations around the Web 2.0 platform. We've recently hightlighted some examples in 1to1 Magazine about wikis being used in the customer service space (Customer Service by Committee), and internally with Enterprise 2.0 that is starting to address the data potential you mention. It's a very exciting time.

The impact that Web 2.0 has had on business models is no more apparent than in the small to medium business sector.

Whilst the emphasis in the media has always been on the advertising angle let us not forget that a grandma from Indiana can now rival a multi-national, and a band of students from around the world can create the next 'big thing' thanks to the web 2.0 technologies available to us all today

Web 2.0 has really just helped to spur a new wave of globalization that enables the individual, just as the prior wave enabled the big budget corporation

Great read Tac :)

Innovation is definitely the key. People are constantly looking for something. That something could be a particular wine, a particular piece of art, or furniture, or simply conversation or a sense of belonging. This new connectivity has decreased that space to which you refer. Critical mass adoption in all these little segments and the bridges that are formed between them will generate a market that is more efficient than ever. Eventually, everyone will have symmetric information. The possibilities for the exchange of ideas within that space is becoming more prolific everyday. That butterfly in Japan starts a new typhoon with every beat of its wings. Cool Post.

Thanks Andrew,
I guess what I was trying to say was that people need to be *thinking* about other ways to apply the functionality of Web *2.0* to different business models besides advertising.
