This has been a rumor floating around for a while. FM has had huge growth over the last year and would be an interesting investment for any VC. But Duncan brings up an excellent point:
Rumor: Federated Media Takes $50 Million On A $200 Million Valuation
VentureBeat talks about expanding the business and Facebook apps, but does FM really need more money to build out its core business? There’s every chance FM will be going down the Glam path in owning or part owning some sites and acting as the ad broker for others.
FM doesn’t need the funding. At least not for what they are currently doing. John and Chas are two of the smartest people I know and they have built an equally talented team. *If* they have taken funding it will be very fascinating to see what they do with it.
The ad network space will be very interesting to watch over the next two years.
In full disclosure, HP is a client of FM and I have worked with them on several occasions.
