Kiva in the US: The Crowd-Sourced Anti-Fund

Kiva Microfunds

This is something I’ve been waiting for. Kiva Brings Microlending Home To U.S. Entrepreneurs In Need.

When I was at TechBoise several of us lamented the need for pre-seed level funding. Sure VC’s could come in and throw 100K at a good idea to see if it warranted  follow on funding, but what about the one or two person shop that needs 5-10K to even get to that point?

The idea was to garner community support for some sort of crowd-sourced anti-fund. It would be crowed sourced because we knew there were several hundred people who would be willing to throw in a hundred or so dollars and it had to be an anti-fund because we would avaid providing a return to avoid SEC involvement.

I think if a community rallied behind the cause Kiva would provide the perfect platform to organize this on.
