There will be fewer jobs in those city centre glass towers and more paid work out at the sharp end of the economy. There will always be a need for specific skills, the generalists will be hit hardest. You are taking on board the defensive posture that big firms have to take as they retreat from their formerly aggressive, dominant stance. Employees, as the agile and energetic player, are able to think very precisely about what they do and don't want and almost cherry pick. I tried to to use a sports analogy in 3 rules for beating the recession. In short, employees are going to have fun! Will you tell me what you think? IMHO you are being too defensive.
