I am intrigued by the "art of pondering" and found your comments described well a few things I have been discovering about the importance of it in everyday living. You mentioned that walking was effective for you to get you prepared for pondering, or rather, allows the act of pondering to take place. Have you ever walked a Labyrinth? It's walking meditation and I can't recommend it enough. Just google Labyrinth and you'll learn about the amazing tool a walk on one can be for facilitating pondering.

We all have to ponder. But sometimes pondering to much can stop people from just living life and learning from experience. Then one with experience would not have to ponder as much as one would just know.

How do you know if you're pondering too much -- or not enough? What is the proper amount of pondering?

... this is the kind of stuff I often ponder...

You bring up a great point Mark about flow. I didn't even get into that aspect of it. For me I find it's less about recharging and more about keeping my momentum. By stepping away to ponder it uses a different set of "mental muscles" which keeps one set fresh while keeping my momentum on a project or line of thinking.

Stepping out into nature works for me. Pondering is so, so valuable for finding clarity in the flow. Take the time to ponder and you may discover something brilliant.
