What does it mean to be a blogger?

Every blogger has their own reasons for blogging.  Like the content that fills our blogs, we are unique.  When you say “I blogged about this the other day” what are you saying about yourself?  Why do we pull out your Moleskine (or other inferior note book) to write down a blog idea?  What compels us?

We are part of a community.  We are part of an ongoing conversation.  We are citizen of the democratized nation called the Blogosphere.

With that citizenship comes it’s own rules.  When some one breaks those rules the blogosphere is quick to punish.  Fortunately we are also quick to forgive.  We disagree, we argue, but usually we are all trying to come to a better understanding of the world around us.

We hope that we are making the world a better place.  We believe that blogging makes us better.  We become neighbors and friends.

  • To me, being a blogger is somewhat of an ego trip while at the same time it is a way for me to record my thoughts and ideas. If I'm able to share those thoughts and ideas with other people and they draw a benefit from what I have to say - great! At the very least I have something to go back on when I get a new idea and want to connect it with something I thought about in the past.

Besides, I get a kick out of seeing how my blog drives traffic to my websites and the websites I have drive traffic to my blogs. It's always fun to have people comment on what you have to say, creating a conversation.

Justin, let's be honest. There's a lot of ego that goes into being a blogger. But I agree that the greater benefit comes from "journaling" your thoughts.
And yes the stats are addictive ;)
  • I blog as an outlet for my thoughts as well. I also have a passion for helping people get the jobs they want.

Many years ago, when I was struggling to build a corporate career, I ran into some walls that no one told me about. I was attempting to promote up in an organization and there were rules of engagement I didn't know existed. My blog is hopefully a resource for those who may be having difficulty getting a job, an interview or a promotion. Even as I write this comment, I got a creative idea for this passion for interviewing. Anyway,,, :)
