New Directions for New Comm Biz: It’s Not About Me

I’ve made some changes to this blog over the weekend. It started with the desire to redesign the site, to simplify things. (What do you think?)

The change was also spawned by the desire to move this blog away from me and my opinions. I’ve removed the focus from me and made it more about the content. I will make more changes and will continue to move the focus away from me. All things Tac will eventually live at /tacanderson.

I’ve also decided to finally define what this blog is all about. I’ve given it a purpose. So what is the purpose of this blog?

This blog is dedicated to examining the cataclysmic changes social media is having on business. We’re not trying to predict its future, we’re trying to help create it.

I also have some pretty aggressive plans to grow this blog in 2010, much like I did in 2009. This blog made it into the AdAge Power 150, and I have almost doubled my 2009 RSS subscriber goal of 1,000 with over 1,800 subscribers. I know this blog could be better. I can make it better. But I know that it can be so much better if it moves beyond me.

While I am the only contributor to this blog I want to change that. I am looking for people to contribute to this blog. If you would like to contribute on an occasional or permanent basis please let me know. I have no plans to ever leave this blog but I do want to branch out.

And finally if you have suggestions on the new look or the new direction, please let me know.

But most of all thank you for helping me get this far.

About Tac

    Hi Tac,
Congratulations on the new design; it's very nice. I love the mission statement!

I wish you good luck in fulfilling your growth goals, and I have no doubt that you will succeed. I have myself joined the readership of this blog only a couple of months ago, and I know this place has much potential for reaching further crowds.

I do want to say, however, that the value of your opinions and commentary are what made this place so great… So please don't tone them down :-)

    Good luck!
    Itamar

    ( P.S. and don't think we don't miss the “self-aggrandizing” box ;-) )

Great new look. And title…we'll help spread the word at Social Media Today and keep up the good work, Tac.

Tac, love the look and the organization. The new focus sounds wonderful. Agree with Itamar: no need to tone down your opinion! :)

The site looks great, Tac. Although I do agree with Itamar — you are the reason that we're here.
My only comment is that there seems to be a disconnect between “About Us” and then having all of the text be “I”. Maybe, you should rename “About Us” to “Meet Tac”…I know that your efforts are to move away from you but in the end it is your blog and there isn't a “Us”.

Itamar, thank you for the very kind words. I figured the last thing anyone would miss is the Self Aggrandizing :) Maybe it'll make an appearance back as a page.

And don't worry, it would be impossible for me to write without my opinion. Please keep the feedback coming.

    Robin,
Thank you! Social Media Today and it's community have been a big help in the growth of this blog. I look forward to continued participation.

Like I could if I wanted to :)

Thanks Jill. The pages are and will be going through some major tune ups. You're right they are a little disconected right now from the rest of the site. Thanks for the feedback.
