Four North West Social Media Events Where I Will Be This Spring

It has been a wet, cold long winter here in the PacNW. But spring is slowly making itself known. It’s almost time to put away your sun lamps, soak up some real Vitamin D and get out and meet some people in person, not just on Twitter and Facebook.

I have been a bit elusive myself this winter but have vowed to be better about getting out, meeting people in person and doing some good old fashioned networking.

If you’re hoping to track me down here are some good places to start. Full details further below.

  • Social Media Breakfast Seattle - Wednesday May 18th
  • Social Media Club Portland - Monday May 23rd
  • WebVisions - Wednesday May 25th - Friday May 27th
  • Social Media 301 - Friday June 3rd
  • +1 [UPDATE] 140 Conference NW - Thursday May 19th

Are you planing on attending any of these? What other events are you looking forward to?

Social Media Breakfast Seattle - Wednesday May 18th

To kick things off Waggener Edstrom is hosting Seattle’s Social Media Breakfast this Wednesday. It should be a good one and I know there are still some spots available so be sure to register right now!

Mobile Messaging: Taking Your Social Media Campaign on the Road

Consider these stats: On average, Americans spend 3 hours a day on their mobile device. Half of all local searches take place on the smartphone. It’s clear — your customers have gone Mobile, have you?
Join SMB Seattle and founder of Tatango, Derek Johnson, on May 18, as we explore the world of mobile marketing and learn how to add mobile to your marketing mix.

In this session, you’ll learn:

  • How to launch a successful text messaging campaign for any business.
  • Hear case studies from businesses using text message marketing successfully.
  • Understand where text message marketing fits in with other marketing channels.
  • See how QR codes can enhance any text messaging campaign.
  • Do’s and don’t for any text message marketing campaign.

Date: Wednesday, May 18, 2011
Time: Networking – 7:30-8:00 a.m., Program – 8:00-9:00 a.m.
Location: Waggener Edstrom Worldwide

And then next week you’ll find me in Portland, not for one, but two separate speaking events that will bookend the week.

Social Media Club Portland - Monday May 23rd

The first one will be next Monday at the Social Media Club Portland event hosted by Webtrends. I’ll be speaking on a topic that’s getting to be one of my more popular topics which isn’t about social media strategy but about surviving as a Social media Strategist.

Scaling the Social Media Strategist: Tac Anderson presented by Social Media Club Portland

Social Media Club Portland welcomes Tac Anderson, VP of Digital Consulting at Waggener Edstrom, to Webtrends on Monday, May 23. Tac was named one of iMedia’s 2010 top 25 Internet Marketing Leaders and Innovators, has regular speaking engagements, and blogs at http://www.newcommbiz.com.

Lions, tigers, and bears; Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Working with social media can sometimes feel like a walk in a dark forest. The geometric progression of social media, both in use and in variety, has strategists on a never-ending ramp trying to keep from falling behind the curve.

Tac’s timely presentation is on Scaling the Social Media Strategist: Knowledge workers are being drowned in information and it’s only going to get worse. Not only are you expected to manage the tidal wave of email, you know have to manage Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and a dozen other social profiles for you and your company. Learn some helpful tips, tricks and strategies for not only taming but the information fire hose but how to beat it into submission and make it work for you.

Make sure to attend this Social Media Club Portland meeting. Who knows, it could provide the roadmap to your work/life balance

WebVisions - Wednesday May 25th - Friday May 27th

The second event will be later that same week at the Webvisions event on Thursday and Friday. My session will be on Friday morning.

How to Build a Community Around Your Company that Won’t Turn on You
Time: Fri May 27, 10:30 am – 11:00 am

You’ve built the best product you can. You’ve created the best experience you can. You’ve worked harder than you ever have in your life. But none of it is enough. Now you have to build a community (whatever that means) in order to market your product.

We’ll talk through what it means to build a community. How you engage with that community without turning them into an angry mob, how to be transparent without being too transparent and how to make money from that community. (Yes it’s okay to make money.)

Social Media 301 - Friday June 3rd

Last but not least is an the Social Media 301 event on the Microsoft Redmond campus on June 3rd.

I spoke at last year’s 201 event and it’s one of the best social media conferences in the Seattle area.  @MikeWhitmore has asked me to join the Social Inside the Enterprise panel: Social inside and outside the enterprise - how social principles apply in both situations.

Creatively engage to reach the next level of ROI

Six legit social media managers from established brands, the author of Engage!, three social media consulting firms, and the President of WOMMA will share their knowledge, strategies, stories, and tools of how you can engage to the next level.

[UPDATE] @derekWwyatt just clued me in on the #140confNW. I’ve already registered for this one.

140 Characters Conference Northwest (#140conf NW)

WHAT IS THIS CONFERENCE ALL ABOUT? The key focus of this conference is on how real time technology (like Twitter and Facebook) is changing business, government, healthcare, social services, media, education, celebrity – and everything.

There will be over 40 different presentations with nearly 70 speakers, all presenting back-to-back and all without the aid of powerpoint.   This is Storytelling 101.

For those who cannot attend in person, this conference will be live streamed on the internet.

WHEN & WHERE? Join us May 19, 2011, for the first Pacific Northwest 140 Character Conference at the Hilton Hotel in Vancouver, Washington.

I hope you’ll be getting out and networking more as the weather starts to get nicer and if you’re in Seattle or Portland I hope to see you at one of these events. If there’s another one in the PacNW that people should be attending please let us know in the comments.
